latest emails from Sister Rowland
So this week my companion and i taught two investigators the first and second lessons...at different times. but it was really fun. It was a lot different working with one companion. It is going to take some getting used to but I LOVE it! We both are talking the same amount, which is good because sis kempton is quiet so it is good because we both are working on our weakneses.
I spoke in church in portuguese! It was good! It was about obedience. I read some from preach my gospel, and a couple of scriptures. then i told the story about how me and maddy got stuck in the mud. It was a great story. (I told you i'd talk about it in church one day meem hahaha) It went really well though. I know the lord blessed me. I prayed and studied as hard as i could and I really felt I had a lot of help. The language is good...I am learning at a good pace.

Sister Rowland's Latest email
So wow! This week went by so fast!! Today is P day and we got to go to the temple. The provo temple is really nice. We did an endowment session. I don't remember what i told you about the MTC so far. So my companions are Sister Kempton from Arizona and Sister Olsen from Alaska. Sister Olsen's Visa came through and she is flying to Brazil on Tuesday. Hopefully the rest of the 100 + visa wait-ees will get theirs soon too!
I get to talk in church on sunday in portuguese! I can't talk in english! it is going to be hard but i'm super excited! I know how to pray in portuguese now. it is cool! I don't pray in english anymore. We also have learned how to bear our testimony in portuguese. It is going good. I still have things i need to learn though.
I love you all so much!!! I am not homesick at all, but I have been finding Maddy's movie quote notes everywhere and it makes me miss the good times we have had together quoting movies and giving each other a hard time. I miss each one of you in Different ways.
RUss--Thanks so much for that little green guy! I have it next to my bed and it makes me smile every time i see it.

Maddy - Where in the world? i have found like 20 notes in the most random places! It is AWESOME! Thank you so much for thinking of that! It makes it so fun! I get so excited when I find one!!!

We taught the 2nd lesson to a fake investigator! It is kinda difficult to teach with 2 companions cause the rhythm can get confusing but I love my companions. They are both really cute. Sis Kempton is quiet, but when Sis Olsen flies out Sis Kempton will get to say more!
I know that I was kinda bummed that I was coming here but I know that Heavenly Father has my needs in mind. I am really learning HOW to teach through some really tough situations - with fake investigators - but I know how now. I'm glad I was able to pick it up so fast. It really is about getting to know them and addressing their needs... Which comes pretty easy for me! I have learned how to do that well through watching you mom and dad. You guys are great examples of looking for ways to help people.

I really appreciate the e-mail you sent me, I long for Elder Rowland, he was an excellent companion, always had a smile on his face, and in difficult times too!

Thats so great that you made it to the mtc. Sounds monsterous there! I has brought back a few memories of the ctm. I hope you visa passes through.! Well right now im in the lan house of arroio dos ratos, and things are going great here , we are having sucess and the lessons im learning, Along with the lessons that you are no doubt learning, are streangthing us both. I do know elder Alvizo, very well , he got here after me! He is super cool. Well i sure love you ash and i have you in my prayers!

Thanks so much for everything. I Cant beleive that we are so far apart physically , but so close spiritually! I think its so neat that we are a family. I bet Karsons fare well was really neat. I will be getting my package at the next zone conferance, which is about 2 weeks so dont worry to much. It will come soon. This week was really good, I learned a lot and i am really growing in spirit and in love the people here. Well im sorry that this will be so short but i have to be going , I love you all, Did you get my letter yet!:?

Sister Rowland's Life at the MTC
Hey Family!
I am in the Provo MTC with 60+ other missionaries who are portuguese speaking. About 30 missionaries are here whose visas have not been approved yet. I was told that the problem is so great that several general authorities are working to resolve the Brazilan Visa issue.
I am in a triple companionship. Two other sisters were called to Brazil the same day as me. Sister Kempton, from Arizona, and Sister Olsen from Alaska. They are WAY fun! They are both going to Cuiaba
The first day here we droped our bags off at our room and didn't go back until 9:30! we have worked so hard already!
The food here is good! And all of the Elders stand up every time we sit down at the table. Its cool - but kinda embarrassing because like 60 Elders stand up and wait for us to sit down hahahaha. They always hold the doors for us too. It is cool. I've heard so many different languages here. Everyone says oi or hi to everyone they pass. It gets us comfortable with talking to other people i guess? Hahaa...i wish i had a problem with talking to people, i think my companions get sick of me saying hi to people I know. lol I've seen Sister Sain, and Sister Holmes is my roommate! Haha Crazy!
Ty - do you know an Elder Alvizo? An Elder Planck next to me says his friend is serving in Porto Alegre South. Ask him if he knows him haha.
Missionary work is never ending! It is fun though! I really am not home sick at all.
These elders next to me doing laundry and passing around pictures of their old girlfriends and it is so ridiculous. They are like rating the pictures and one kid was like "THis is my X, and another elder was like "Why?! Can I have that picture!?!" -Oh my word....
Well I need to change my laundry. Keep moving forward! I miss you and Love you All SOOOOO Much!

Hey There
This one is more for mother, thanks for the wonderful email. I loved it. Does packing bring back weird memories mom? :) It seems like yesterday that we were packing for my mission. Thats so neat that everything is going so well, Tell Aunt Peggy and Don Congradulations! I have a new uncle! Cool! Thats neat how the things change in our lives. I love the things im learning and im trying to do my best. I love you mom and the rest of the family Too!
We had a transfer, and my companion super awesome will be sticking around a little bit longer with me. This will be the first companion that will have stayed with me for more than one transfer. He is great and has so much to teach me. This little branch that im in is just wonderful! I see miracles every week. The mission is going by so fast. So ashley will stay at the provo mtc eh!? thats pretty cool! I didnt get to experiance that , but you will learn just as much there as you would brazil.! Let me know your new address when you get there. I Love you all and wish you all of the happiness in the world! What else is going on. Give me an update!

From Elder to Sister
Ashley,
They gave me the opportunity to write you a little email before you leave. Im so excited for you. What a feeling i felt when i left from that little airport in cedar city utah. with so many wonderful people to send me off. I will not be there to give you a big hug, but i will say that if i was there, maybe for the first time in my life, i would cry more than you. Im so proud of this decision that you made, you didnt have to but you did anyway. I pray for the people that you will find , and i pray that you will learn quickly this beautiful language of portugues. My companion, Elder Perrupato also wishes you good luck and a great trip here ! You are such a wonderful sister with so many wonderful talents and everyone will love you for who you are, you will become a great woman for the choice that you made. What faith you have... you have never seen this place, and i am but a testimony that this place exists . so you are a woman of great faith. I sure love you Ash, you are the best. Hey there Ash and the Family!
First off, Im so excited to actually be having this conversation! Legal!! and also thanks so much for the help on my email crisis. Its was getting pretty ugly. I am pretty good for now on clothes , Garments, socks , shirts , and ties, so all thats pretty good still, But as for the cristmas stuff, i will save that for a little later in the email... But what i wouldnt have brought and what i would have stalked up on more... let me see. The Giant thing of shampoo that i brought lasted until 8 months, but since you are a girl ash, so i dont think it will be quite the same for you. but let me think.. I really cant think of anything right off the bat, it seems like i needed to use everything i brought at one time or another. But i wish i would have brought more folders to store papers, and important items like that , but that all i cant think of for now. Remember my companions brother works at the CTM Irmão Perrupato, and look for Irmã Camila for me and give her a big hug, because im speaking portugues now! And i will give you more names too find, but most importantly, Pray to the lord to prepare you for the trip, and pray to help you let go of the worldly things. I sure love you ash, and think you are just awesome for making such a great choice. I love you Maddy , Jesse , Logan , Russell , Mom And Dad!
